SEASEM
St. Enoch and St. Elijah Monastery (SEASEM) has a commission to raise people up, by God’s grace, in Father fusion. Father Fusion is union with God. Theosis is another term for this transformative deification process that grows a person into union with God. A person will never become God, because only God can be God, but an ever closer relationship with the indwelling Spirit of God brings us increasingly into that divine union. This life of Father fusion is drawn directly from a living relationship with the Son of God, Jesus Christ, and the Spirit of the Father within each person. The monastery looks to the incarnation, life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and his Father fusion as the example for each individual’s potential to Father fusion.
SEASEM is a non-denominational Christian monastery that shares with other Christian traditions the belief in the Holy Trinity, God the parent, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit, three persons in one. We believe that God revealed Itself in Jesus Christ and in the life, crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Son of Man, and Son of God, fully human and fully divine.
In order to actualise the SEASEM mission of growing Father fusion in persons, we draw on the understanding (1) that Christ the Son of God is united in will with God the Father and yet, in his incarnation as the human Jesus (2) grew up as a regular man who spiritually achieved his own Father fusion; and, (3) that it was from out of his Father fusion that Jesus could say of his ministry he was only ever doing the will of the Father.
From out of his own perfected human Father Fusion, Jesus told his disciples to have faith in God’s desire for them to have the same Father Fusion as he had: “Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else believe on account of the works themselves.” John14:11.
From out of his own Divine Father fusion with God the Father, as the Creator Son of God, Jesus told his disciples about the mystical event that leads to Father Fusion: “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.” John 14:23.
From out of his own combined reality as the Son of God and the Son of Man in one human being on the earth Jesus said to the Spirit of the Father with him: “… just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us,” John 17:21.
SEASEM’s community is made up of Christian women and men who are called or drawn to live a contemplative life toward their individual Father fusion. It is a life steeped in the monastic and hermitic traditions of early Orthodox desert fathers and mothers and Western monks and nuns, and saintly mystics. Apart from the world, the community lives a life of liturgy, prayer, works, rest and creativity, reflecting the silence and Glory of God to and for the world.
